CÔTES DU RHÔNE Village Laudun
Appellation AOP Côtes du Rhône : The history of Laudun stretches back to Roman times, as evidenced by the Camp de César, a major archaeological site lying on a vast fortified plateau. Historians believe that vines were first planted on the Laudun hillsides around this time. The wines of Laudun grew in popularity, particularly in the 17th century. In 1967, Laudun officially became a Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation authorised to feature its village name.
Climate : The climate here is Mediterranean, refreshed by the cleansing Mistral wind. Summers are hot and dry, with sometimes violent storms. Rainfall is low, and snow is rare.
Grape varieties : Grenache, Syrah.
Alcohol content : 14.5%
Soil : Soil ranging from clay limestone to sand, producing full, generous and fruity wines. The red clays located at depth ensure there is good resistance to the water stress caused by the Mediterranean climate, making this a very interesting soil.
Harvest : 100% harvested and sorted by hand. The grapes are hand-harvested to the optimal maturity using small cases to avoid crushing.
Vinification : The grapes are fully destemmed and then vinified in inox vats, where they will spend between 5 to 7 weeks. The alcoholic fermentation is brought on by the indigenous yeasts. The pumping-over and rack and return operations carried out during the vatting period are determined by daily tastings.
Ageing : The wine is mainly aged in vats with a percentage of the wine aged in French oak barrels from 6-12 months.
Colour: Deep and dense red, with blueish hints
Nose: Beautiful intensity and great complexity with notes of red berries, such as blackcurrant, and subtle notes of thyme and liquorice.
Palate: An expansive palate of many levels, rich and ropy with concentrated fruit of ripe blackcurrant, soft spices, rounded tannins and unique hints of dark chocolate and liquorice. Subtle oak aromas at one with the wine, with a bold finish of lingering complexity.
Recommended food pairing : Tosca pairs ideally with spicy pork chops or a grilled steak rib. Perfect match with vegetarian lasagne or Chili con carne.
Recommended Musical pairing : Opera “Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini
Serving temperature : 16-18°C.
Ageing potential : Excellent now, this wine can be cellared for 4 to 5 years of age.

The ‘musical appetizer’ is a small catalogue that is placed over on the neck of the bottle. On this catalogue, along with photos and information on the winery, there is a QR code that can be scanned by any smart phone. This will link the individual to youtube, to listen to the music of the opera that the wine is named after. The aria is sung by Alexandre Marcelli-Audier himself (owner of Chateau Juliette). Each of Chateau Juliette’s wines have a specific opera name that are paired with their own music. Clients can watch the winery’s video on their phones whilst listening to the music and tasting the wines!!
